The 'I love you but you're totally unwearable' cartoon print dress from New Look

Yesterday I had half an hour to kill on my lunch break, so I thought I'd nip into New Look to have a look at their often lovely range of wide fit shoes. However, something caught my eye. Something so epic and crazy and completely unwearable that I felt compelled to try it on! The first thing I noticed about it is the amazing print, full of cartoons, doodles, photos...

I chose this eye catching number in a size 10 as it I could tell the size 8 would be too small. Off I toddled to the changing room. I slipped the dress on and soon realised that....um wow! Talk about a confidence boost. It looks like I was poured into it!
Unfortunately it's not the kind of dress you can wear a stitch of underwear with down to the sheer panels that run down the side of the dress. BUT, they add to the curvy effect so I couldn't see it working so well without them.

The dress costs £24.99 by the brand Parisian and isn't available (yet?) on New Look's website. However, there's one without the sheer panels for just £16.99.
As much as I love the way this dress looked and made me feel, I didn't buy it for numerous reasons. I need to wear a bra and I just couldn't in this. Also, it's way too racy and young for me!

What do you think? Would you wear it?

  1. I would like to think so but I've proven myself a chicken on several occasions. The underwear as outerwear trend is still growing. There's nothing wrong with having pretty undies showing through the sheer side panels of the dress. You look amazing in it. I'm sorry you don't feel young and racy enough for the dress just in case some charitable high end lingerie brand coughed up free goodies for the show. I think you would look fabulous dressed that way. I wish I had curves like yours (dreaming)!

  2. I kid you not, the moment I saw the picture of you in this dress, my jaw dropped. I have yet to pick it up off the floor. You look absolutely stunning! If I were to ever have the chance to try that dress, I wouldn't, simply because I believe I wouldn't look as absolutely fantastic as you do. It has a bit of sex appeal with the sheer sides and I would be too modest to wear it without any sort of underwear.

    1. Wow, thanks! I'm so flattered! I'm convinced that ANYONE would look amazing in this dress so please try it if you see it and prove me right :)

    2. Agreed, it looks amazing. I'm not a regular reader of your blog, so could you maybe tell me what your cup size is? I'm wondering how many inches of room there is in the bust in this dress...because I'm finding myself considering it, which is just plain crazy as I can't imagine where I would wear it.

  3. I totally agree with voluptuouslythin....when I saw the pic I was just like "wow she looks absolutely amazing," (with jaw dropped).
I was talking to my wife about it, we both agreed it looked like you had been poured into the dress! And I bet the person who designed it totally imagined it looking EXACTLY like it looks on you! But we could also totally understand the hesitancy about buying it with the sheer sides! Too bad though....when something looks the way that looks on you, and makes you feel the way it made you feel.....it just seems meant to be.

    1. Thank you! I'd have nowhere to where it and I don't want another one of those in my wardrobe. I have so many things I don't have an occasion for already :)

  4. If you're still swooning over the print, there's also a short-sleeved one without the panels for £9.99 at Prodigy Red. They also have a pencil skirt. http://www.prodigyred.com/p3627/kriss-cut-out-pop-art-bodycon-dress-/product_info.html

  5. They should've made the panels just black! :( I think you look so fantastic in this dress, you pull it off so well. I honestly just want to worship you as my curvy goddess! <3

Also, don't you absolutely HATE when you fall in love with what seems to be the perfect dress but it has this one feature that makes it unwearable? I tried on the cutest size AU10 dress the other week but it wouldn't go over my bust and I knew that the size up would be too big everywhere else and it wasn't worth altering! :/ Or backless dresses, man they drive me up the WALL.

    1. Thanks for your lovely comments :)

Yes, I hate it when something perfect apart from one little thing that can't be altered. I tried a beautiful dress on over Christmas and I fell in love with it but it just couldn't be altered. I was so sad :(

    2. I fail to see what that has to do with anything lol. I personally believe if you're 70 years old and wanna wear that dress you should be able to! And you still look every bit of 21 and you're certainly good looking enough to pull it off! As long is it fits and flatters your body, it's wearable. I always found the "Too young" thing silly. But that's just me. Like how younger women are allowed to show more leg....Like...why should 16-year-old little girls be allowed to wear skirts just past their butt but a 30-year-old WOMAN can not. Seems backwards to me! If something makes you happy/feel good...wear it!
